i believe the reason why we are the last to know is because our addictions adapts an evolves making defences for itself its not a natural thing to admit yourself as being sick in this way because it goes against society and would make us different so its easy to create an excuss rather then say that your life is not your own but your addictions, and it dictates your every moment an you are rendered powerless over it will using . this is something hard to understand for me because my addiction always lets me think im in control but all my actions would clearly indicate that wasnt the case. addiction is not the only illness with this symptom i found that my depression acts basically on the same principles as once again i was the last one to see i had a problem an the cold hard fact is that no matter who may know only you can help yourself with these illnesses meaning only when we come to terms that we are powerless over and that our lives are unmanagable to use can we really start down the long hard but well worth road of recovery
